Chapter 11

  1. I thought it was interesting that Dr. Levine included the Barton family. All the suggestions that the Barton's included so we could see what their routine and key points for having students who are not output failures. I actually like these key points because I compared what I had as a little child and what most of my students go home to. It is definitely interesting to see some of the similarities but also to think about the future and how I will raise my children (if I ever get there). Even the suggestions for how to parent while cultivating output, these are very helpful. I feel like, as teachers, we do these things everyday. For example, "Take an interest or reinforce and praise output," we do these all the time. We believe in our students and while we push them, we praise them and encourage them. It is almost like we are the parents holding onto the bike while the student pedals and learns how to ride. I enjoyed this chapter. I kind of wish the rest of the book was this interesting.
